Minneapolis police say they've arrested a 23 year old white male and another unidentified suspect in connection to Monday's
night's shooting at a Black Lives Matter sit-in. Officials are still
searching for at least two other white suspects accused of shooting five
black people at the event. Demonstrators have been conducting a vigil
outside the station over the death of 24-year-old Jamar Clark, who was
fatally shot by a white police officer on Nov. 15. (Eyewitnesses say he
was shot while handucffed.) Miski Noor, a spokeswoman for the local
Black Lives Matter group, said three white male counter-demonstrators
arrived at the scene “as they have most nights.” When a group of
protesters tried to move them away, Noor said two of the men opened fire
and then fled. All five of those shot have non-life-threatening
injuries, police said. Early Tuesday,
Minneapolis Police tweeted they are searching for three white suspects.
Clark’s brother, Eddie Sutton, issued a statement calling for the end
of the occupation “out of imminent concern” for the safety of
protesters. |
