PA Town Council Censures ‘Racist’ Mayor

PA Town Council Censures ‘Racist’ Mayor

The West York Council in Pennsylvania voted unanimously Monday night to censure the town’s mayor over a series of racist posts he made on his Facebook page. Republican Mayor Charles Wasko is facing calls to resign over the posts, which included images of apes with captions referring to President Barack Obama and a separate post about lynching. Town Council President Shawn Mauck had some harsh words for Wasko on Monday night. “We will send a message to the mayor that his legislative body rebukes him in every way. He has embarrassed all of us. Not just this table but everyone in this room. Everyone in West York. Everyone in York County, everyone in this commonwealth,” Mauck said. The town council also approved a motion to seek legal means to remove Wasko from office. Wasko did not attend the council meeting but earlier claimed he was the victim of a “witch hunt.”
