Bill would allow military clergy to opt out of marriage ceremonies
The Senate has approved language in a defense bill that would allow military chaplains to refuse to officiate at a wedding that violates their conscience or religious beliefs. The move would write into U.S. law a principle that is already present in military regulations. A companion bill passed in the House goes further, forbidding military clergy from presiding at weddings of same-sex couples. Army Times (11/30)
