NYC officials want early drug therapies for HIV-positive people
Officials with the New York City Health Department are calling for a major revision in recommended care for those who test positive for HIV, advising that patients not wait to begin expensive drug therapies, which they say could greatly diminish the number of new infections in the city. "I'm more optimistic now than I've ever been about this epidemic that we can drive our new rates down to zero or close to it -- eventually," said New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Farley.
