Tea Party Racist Rand Paul Says Extending Unemployment Benefits Is A Disservice To Blacks (Video)
by Bob Cull
Appearing
with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said
that he was opposed to extending unemployment benefits beyond 26 weeks.
He justified his stance by saying that it does a disservice to the
unemployed, particularly black Americans since the unemployment rate in
black communities is much higher.
He
went on to say, “When you allow people to be on unemployment insurance
for 99 weeks, you’re causing them to become part of this perpetual
unemployed group in our economy. And while it seems good, it actually
does a disservice to the people you’re trying to help.”
He
seems to be oblivious to the fact that for every job that becomes
available there are still 3-4 applicants. Paul's claim that businesses
say that they are more inclined to hire the man who has been out of work
for a few weeks than the one who has been out of work for several
months it is not a justification. It is merely more evidence that
businesses are contributing to the problem of long-term unemployment by
using the fact that the worker has been out of work for too long as a
justification to not hire him.
Of
course this is no surprise coming from the man who thinks that the
government should do nothing for the people. He has no such
reservations about the government doing things to benefit his corporate
benefactors who have created the problem of long-term unemployment.
It
also brings us back to the topic of those sweeping changes that the GOP
was going to make to reach out to minorities, they gave lip service to
that goal after the last election and Mitt Romney's dismal showing with
minority voters, but since then it has been more of the same dismissive
rhetoric such as this.
Like the rest of the party, Senator Paul just does not get it, he is completely out of touch with the people.
Watch his remarks below.
