Teacher Films Autistic Child Stuck In Chair For 15 Minutes Because Helping Is Hard (Video)

What new and inventive way will our nation's schools find to humiliate children next? If they aren't taking food away from children and throwing it away in front of them or literally labeling them as the 'poor kid,' or forcing them to practice religion, it seems that every day, another employee of a school finds some way to make our children's lives worse.
In
November, a fifth grade teacher at Oaktree Elementary in Goodrich, MI
did the unthinkable. When an autistic child in her class became stuck in
a chair, noticeably frightened, teacher Nicole McVey recorded the boy's
distress on her cell phone as the rest of the class looked on.
The
boy was stuck in the chair for 10-15 minutes as McVey's sick sense of
humor causes her to, rather than help him, enjoy his suffering. At one
point, she asks, "Do you want to get tasered?" Shortly after, the
principal enters the room and refers to the situation as not being an
emergency.
The
video was distributed to school staff, and friends of the principal and
teacher--a violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act,
according to the family's lawyer. The principal resigned shortly after.
The
school board voted to fire her late last year, but under Michigan
tenure law she has a right to a private hearing. McVey is on paid
administrative leave pending the results of tenure hearings.
