Former Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern: ‘Disagree With Me And You Are Stoning God’ (Video/Audio)
by Josh Kilburn
If there's one thing the delusional right-wing loves more than a chance to bloviate about their bigotry, it's a chance to wax fondly on how persecuted they are.
Back in 2011, the Oklahoma
Representative Sally Kern published a book about her whole affair with
delusional martyrdom. This self-published book, modestly titled The Stoning of Sally Kern: The Liberal Attack on Christian Conservatism,
recounts the harrowing tale of Representative Sally Kern as she battles
against the evils of Big Homo in failed attempt to convince people that
being criticized is the same thing as being martyred.
There's
quite an interesting story behind her book though; it started back in
2008, when she made a speech to a small gathering of like-minded bigots.
As things often do, the speech got out, and that's when the ball
started rolling:
Yes,
she did compare being gay with, "hav[ing] cancer in [your] little toe."
Naturally, comparing a healthy relationship with a significant other to
cancer resulted in a mass of criticisms leveled at Ms. Kern. And since
being criticized is the same thing as being persecuted, she grabbed that
ball and ran with it.
2011
finds Kern speaking with fellow rationalist, Peter LaBarbera, on
LaBarbera's radio show. There, she continued her pursuit of martyrdom -
and the almighty dollar, since she was promoting her book as well -
stating breathlessly:
[box

dangerous because it will tear down the moral fiber of this nation. We
were founded as a nation upon the principles of religion and morality,
if we take those out from under our society we will lose what has made
us a great nation, we will no longer be a virtuous people, which we see
happening already. And without virtue this nation will not
survive.[/box]
In
keeping with the solid critical reasoning that Representative Kern is
known for, she once again appeared on a radio show recently, called "In
The Market," trying to justify her words:
Of course, no justification would be complete without reminding everyone that God believes exactly what she believes.
Kern accused those of us standing up for a persecuted minority as being the hateful ones in her screed:
[box
type="shadow"]It just broke my heart because so often what they were
doing, they weren’t just stoning me, they were stoning and desecrating
the God that I love.
There
was just so much hate, they accuse me of being hateful, and I never
once said anything hateful. Such hate expressed against the Lord and
against his word and then the way they, I mean, these people, I believe
these people, I believe scripture teaches this, they’re deceived and to
me the real hate is from those people who say ‘you’re born this way and
you can’t change, deal with it.[/box]
Rep. Kern should know all about hate, though, given that she said this:
Yes, if only those poor people in MS Paintland had listened to Sally Kern.
Comparing
gay people to terrorists isn't hateful, and neither is telling people
that they're going after our two-year-old children. Take a close look at
that statement, since it's probably as close as you'll get (today,
anyway) to what philosophers call a, "self-refuting idea."
