The constitutionality of a Texas law that could have ripple effects that
shutter abortion clinics nationwide is expected to be decided by the
Supreme Court this morning, along with two other cases. Whole Woman’s
Health v. Hellerstedt is a challenge to two parts of a Texas law meant
to regulate the procedures. Republican lawmakers argued the measures
were meant to protect women, but advocates contend the laws are
medically unnecessary and limit access to abortions. The High Court is
also expected to rule on former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s legal
challenge to his public-corruption conviction and a state law that tries
to keep firearms away from those convicted of domestic abuse.
