Elton John’s outfits called ‘gay propaganda’ by Russia

Communist leaders are hoping the glittery singer will go for a dark kaftan, knee-high leather boots and a fut hat at his July gig
Elton John's outfits are being called 'gay propaganda' by Russian Communist leaders.
Flamboyant gay British singer Elton John may have to lose the glitter and glam for his upcoming performances in Russia, or face the backlash.
The ‘I’m Still Standing’ singer, who will play in the southern city of Krasnodar, could be breaking the anti-gay laws if he wears his usual outfits.
Local Communist party leader Mikhail Abramyan suggests instead of sparkling glasses and feather boas, perhaps ‘more respectable’ traditional Cossack clothes would be better for the concert.
He says John should wear a knee-length dark kaftan, knee-high leather boots and a fur hat for the 14 July gig.
‘It would be more respectable. We have suggested it to the promoters and we hope he’ll wear it,’ Abramyan told Russian news agency Ria Novosti.
The communist group leader says he and his 350 members were ready to protest in the streets if the gay singer did not dress ‘less gay’.
Gay activists have previously told Gay Star News they expect a nationwide law on ‘homosexual propaganda’ in Russia to be passed this summer.
It is already illegal in Ryazan, Arkhangelsk, Kostroma, Saint Petersburg, Megadan, Novoskibirsk, Krasnodar, Samara, Baskortostan and Kaliningrad.
Last year, Russian groups sued John’s ‘nemesis’ Madonna for ‘promoting homosexuality’ during her concert. The lawsuit, which would have cost the Queen of Pop millions, was thrown out of court.
