Judicial nominee faces right-wing ire over LGBT activism
Anti-gay groups are lobbying to block Senate confirmation of Michael W. Fitzgerald, an openly gay man nominated by President Barack Obama to become a federal district court judge. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously this week to send the nomination to the full Senate, but groups including the Family Research Council say Fitzgerald's past support of LGBT issues raises questions about his ability to be impartial.
