Christie Aide Says Governor Knew About Bridge Closing and Can ‘PROVE IT’

Christie Aide Says Governor Knew About Bridge Closing and Can ‘PROVE IT’

by Simone Sanner
David Wildstein, Christie appointee to the New Jersey Port Authority and integral part of the scandal surrounding the ordered bridge lane closing last year, has issued a written statement through attorneys that the state's Governor Christ Christie (R-NJ) had full knowledge of the bridge closure, and ordered it.
Wildstein's attorney, Alan L. Zegas, released a statement that in part said:
[box type="shadow"]"...evidence exists as well tying Mr. Christie to having knowledge of the lane closures, during the period when the lanes were closed, contrary to what the Governor stated publicly in a two-hour press conference he gave immediately before Mr. Wildstein was scheduled to appear before the Transportation Committee. Mr. Wildstein contests the accuracy of various statements that the Governor made about him and he can prove the inaccuracy of some."[/box]
The bridge scandal erupted after some of the subpoenaed documents from Wildstein indicated that the bridge closing was an act of political retribution.
Governor Christie has consistently denied that anyone still with his office was involved in the political retribution scandal and that he had no knowledge of his staff's actions while it was happening. Mayors from New Jersey as well as other elected officials such as state Senators have stepped forward to say the problem is endemic with the Christie administration and that naturally Christie knew.
“I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge,” Christie said during a Jan. 9 press conference. “…This behavior is not representative of me or my administration in any way, and people will be held responsible for their actions.”
