Israeli forces shoot, kill Palestinian teen near Ramallah

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian teen late Friday evening near Ramallah during clashes at an Israeli military checkpoint in the occupied West Bank, medical sources said.

Laith al-Khaldi,17, born in the Jalazone refugee camp near Ramallah, was shot in the chest at the Atara checkpoint and later died from his injuries at Palestine Medical Complex near Ramallah, medical sources told Ma'an.

The teen underwent two surgeries before succumbing to his injuries. Medical sources said he lost a significant amount of blood on his way to the hospital.

Al-Khalidi was at least the 20th Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces since the start of 2015, not including those killed in attacks by Israeli settlers.Several other Palestinians were injured with rubber-coated steel bullets during the clashes.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that a Palestinian suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at the army post at the checkpoint, and in response the soldiers fired towards the assailant.

The spokesperson added that hits were confirmed but that the suspect was removed from the scene and they had no further information.

Earlier Friday evening Israeli forces shot dead another 17-year-old in Gaza near the buffer zone, along with another Palestinian who was shot and moderately injured.On Friday morning an 18-month-old was killed in an arson attack carried out by suspected Israeli settlers, near Nablus. The mother, father and 4-year-old brother of the infant are in critical condition in Israeli hospitals.
