Take some lemon juice, a little girl named Jayden, some sugar, water and a bunch of offensive homophobes and what you have is a recipe not only for some interesting lemonade, but for a rather interesting way to protest one particular group of people- the members of Westboro Baptist Church.
Jayden Sink is the daughter of FRESHCASSETTE – Creative Compassion founder Jon Sink. She decided to set up a stand to sell pink lemonade at The Equality House this past Friday. That would be the house that’s painted like a rainbow standing directly opposite Westboro’s Topeka compound.
Jayden, who is like five, decided to set up the lemonade stand there after her parents explained the significance of Equality House and how the church across the street from it was one that spreads hate and bigotry. Her goal was to raise money to go to causes promoting love and peace.

Jayden painted
her banner to read “Pink Lemonade for Peace: $1 Suggested Donation.” She put the stand on the lawn of Equality House and soon people were showing up. While we don’t have actual footage of what happened, we imagine it looked something like this:

Well, Westboro wasn’t too happy about all this peace, love and pink lemonade, so they decided to send out a representative or two to try and stop Jayden. They even called the local police, but the lemonade stand was legal. Eventually, they just yelled at people including calling a group of soldiers who rode out on their motorcycles to buy lemonade “bastards”.
Real classy folks.
Jayden ended up raising $400 that day, and collected over $1000 through Crowd Rise. The smallest donation was, apparently, $10. One person gave a dollar for every person who was killed at during the Sandy Hook attack in Newtown, Connecticut.
Equality House owner Aaron Jackson told The Huffington Post that “As we all know, the Westboro Baptist Church puts a lot of hate into the world. Since we cannot stop them, the next best thing is to smother it with love. That is what 5-year-old Jayden accomplished today! Jayden set up a lemonade stand in front of the church. Not only did she quench the thirst of a lot of loving supporters, the money she raised was donated to Planting Peace so she could help Planting Peace promote a more peaceful world.”
Davis Hammet, the Director of Operatons at Planting Peace, added that “Jayden represents the natural humanity we are born with. We come into this world compassionate, caring beings and only become hateful if we are taught to be.”
