Rubio balks at possible LGBT amendment to immigration bill
Sen.
Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has
filed an amendment to the Senate immigration reform bill that would help
binational same-sex spouses who aren't recognized by federal law. The
bill will be considered on the Senate floor, meaning the amendment will
need at least 60 votes to be considered for approval. Sen. Marco Rubio,
R-Fla., said he's "done" if the amendment is approved. "If this bill has
something in it that gives gay couples immigration rights and so forth,
it kills the bill," Rubio said. Politico (Washington, D.C.)
