A San Diego man is recovering at home from numerous injuries stemming from a vicious late night attack Monday that saw him targeted for no other reason than being gay.

Dwayne Wynn was attacked in the historically LGBT friendly Hillcrest neighbourhood by three men who jumped out of a car yelling gay slurs and wielding a baseball bat; when the attack was over Wynn was left with a broken eye socket, cracked ribs, fractured fingers and a laceration requiring 18 stitches reported ABC10 News.

"I’ve never been that scared in my entire life,” said Dwayne Wynn. “I literally thought I was going to die. I thought they were going to kill me. They were beating me that bad."

Wynn's attackers were not only mentioned to have been enjoying themselves during the attack, but gave each other high-fives as they walked away leaving Wynn on the pavement.

"They just didn't stop and they thought it was a game,” Wynn said. “They thought it was fun."

Attacks against the LGBT community often see a rise when popular celebrities, personalities, or politicians make public comments that demonize, belittle and dehumanize LGBT people, which is just the case recently after Duck Dynasty reality star Phil Robertson made a handful of disgusting remarks in an interview with GQ.

In his interview he compared gay people to terrorists and their lifestyles to bestiality, and went so far as to suggest that a woman's vagina should be more appealing to a gay man than another man's anus.  But just to clear things up, he made sure to let GQ readers know that he wasn't judging anyone.  Nope, not at all:

"We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus — whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”

So as Sarah Palin runs to Robertson's aid, and Chic-fil-A takes a few steps away from him, the LGBT community is San Diego is now tending to one of its own in the wake of an attack they easily could have been fuelled by Robertson's words.
