An internal Defense Department investigation has determined that a 2010
night raid conducted by U.S. special-operations forces in Afghanistan
that killed two pregnant women and five other civilians followed the
rules of engagement. The troops will face no disciplinary measures, The
Intercept reports. Soldiers reportedly dug bullets out of at least one
of the dead pregnant women. Two children were shot during the raid. The
investigators still concluded that “the amount of force utilized was
necessary, proportional, and applied at appropriate time,” though
“tactical mistakes” were made. |
