USA, Utah: Federal Court Strikes Down Marriage Equality Ban With No Stay

Written by Scott on December 20th, 2013
Utah Mormon ChurchAmazing – another ruling just a day after New Mexico.
Equality on Trial reports:
A federal district court judge has just declared that Utah’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. The ruling comes after this month’s oral arguments in the challenge. There is no stay of the judge’s decision, so couples can apply for marriage licenses immediately. This is the first time a federal court has declared a same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional since the Supreme Court decided the Windsor decision striking down Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It’s also the first time it has happened in a red state.
At this rate we’ll have the whole country by Valentines’ Day. Can you imagine?
