'Macho' Brazilian police chief goes on leave for three months and comes back as a woman called Laura
Thiago de Costa Teixeira, 33, (left before surgery) is a respected
former anti-drugs officer and now leads a department in Goiana. At the
end of last year Miss Teixeira went to Thailand for a sex change
operation, and is now a woman called Laura (right). Police colleagues
and LGBT campaigners have hailed her bravery, but some officers say in
private she may struggle to carry out her work in her new identity.
